420,730. Pipe joints. VEREINIGTE STAHLWERKE AKT.-GES., 67, Breitestrasse, Dusseldorf, Germany. Dec. 22, 1933, Nos. 36119, 36120, and 36121. Convention dates, Dec. 31, 1932, Aug. 25, 1933, and Oct. 6, 1933. [Class 99 (i)] A rubber packing ring 4 is located in a groove 3 in a socket prior to being rolled by a spigot into the position shown, the socket being integral with one of the pipes and the spigot having a conical end 5. The groove is then filled with lead or bituminous material 10 which is retained by an internal flange or spaced projections 2. The socket has inclined surfaces 6, 7 parallel to the surface 5, and the spigot has one or more steps 8 one of which adjoins the surface 5.
