Abstract

356,507. Telescopic pipe joints. GASKELL & CHAMBERS, Ltd., Dale End Works, Birmingham. Sept. 29, 1930, No. 29047. [Class 99 (i).] Fluidtightness between telescopic pipes 1, 2 is secured by packing rings 13 which are compressed on to the pipe 2 by gland members 3, 10 and a coupling nut 8. The gland member 3 is fixed by solder 4 to the pipe 1 while the member 10 is loose on the pipe 2, and the inner end of each is formed with a conical surface 6, 12 respectively to engage like surfaces 14 on the packing rings. The packing rings are also formed with a flat surface 15, Fig. 3, and a cylindrical surface 16, and are made of powdered or granulated cork held together by a suitable binding agent.
