Abstract
798,305. Pipe joints. Q. V. F. Ltd., and TURPIN, B. H. Oct. 16, 1956 [Oct. 26, 1955], No. 30675/55. Class 99(1). A glass, metal or synthetic plastic pipe 1 has an outwardly tapered conical end portion 5 with a transverse concave (as shown) or convex end surface 6 symmetrical about the longitudinal axis of the pipe, and a backing flange 7 having a conical bore 9 engages the pipe end over a shaped gasket 11 so that the pipe may be clamped to another pipe 2 having a complementary end surface 4 and a shaped backing flange 8, a gasket 12 being interposed between the mating surfaces. The joint is secured by bolts which pass through aligned holes 13. The flange 8 has a rabbetted bore 10 which engages the end 3 of pipe 2 with an interposed resilient insert 11. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the pipe 1 has a convex end surface, and in Fig. 3 (not shown) an adaptor is illustrated for connecting different pipe ends together, comprising a tube having one end stepped and the other end - tapered, the transverse end surfaces being either convex or concave.
