Abstract

608,412. Soldering; joints. TILTMAN, A. H., and LANGLEY, M. Feb. 22, 1946, No. 5590. [Class 83 (iv)] [Also in Group XXVIII] In a tapered spigot-andsocket joint in which one of the members is engaged by a coupling nut 3 which screws on to the other, the taper of the spigot 6 is slightly more acute than that of the socket 7, and the space between the tapered surfaces is filled with solder. A spigot 8 standing proud of the tapered socket surface 7 engages a recess 9 in the spigot member 6. A ring of solder is placed between the tapered surfaces or adhered to one of them, and the nut is tightened whilst a pair of electrically-heated, thermostatically-controlled tongs 12 is applied to the joint.
