Abstract

221,948. Martin, W. E. Sept. 12, 1923. Couplings, disconnectible.- Relates to hose couplings of the kind in which two similar coupling members a, a are connected by wedge action bayonet - joints constituted by claws, b<1> and coacting flanges c which, when firmly locked, press tightly together two rubber rings e, e having bevelled edges e<1> projecting at an angle towards each other to form a fluid-tight joint. The body a of the coupling has a ring a<1> at the outer end thereof, and is screw-threaded on its exterior at a<2> for the reception of a ring b, provided with slot-screws d, and carrying the claws b and flanges c, the rear surface of said flanges being made parallel except for a slight incline at the start to facilitate engagement. The rubber ring e is located between the rings a<1>, b, and is formed with an annular rib a<2> which enters, an annular groove b<2> in the ring b. The ends of the rings a<1> serve as supports and prevent the rubber flanges e<1> from being bent too far back when fluid under pressure is passed through thehose.
