Cup-leather, overlap joints. - A pipe joint is provided with one or more fluid-sealed hollow packing-rings 40 of flexible material having the free edges 41, 42 extending towards each other directly or at an angle. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the packing-ring is held in position by a ring 59 bolted to a flange 60 on the socket member 30 of the pipe. In modifications, the ring 59 may be screwed into an enlarged and of the socket member 30, or the ring may be formed as an integral inturned end of the enlarged socket member. Fig. 7 shows the application of the packing-rings to a sleeve adapted for connecting two spigot pipe members 20. For connecting two socket pipe members, an internal sleeve may be similarly employed. The outer surface of the flexible packing-ring may consist of two conical portions as in Fig. 1, of conical, cylindrical, and flat portions as in Fig. 7, or it may have a cylindrical surface bounded by two conical or two flat surfaces. The spigot and socket members may be locked together longitudinally when desired by means such as described in Specification 166,718.
