Abstract

Tapered spigot andsocket joints; butt joints. -In pipe joints of the kind comprising two o tubular members with a packing-ring seated on the end of one of them and means for drawing the parts together, one member 10 has a cylindrical enlarged portion 10<a> threaded externally with an annular end surface 12 and an annular recess to receive a packing- ring 13, the surface 15 of the recess being a surface of generation. The other member 11 has a radial flange 16 with an annular end surface 17. and a spigot portion 18 the surface 19 of which is a surface of generation. The packing-ring 13' when uncompressed is slightly larger than the recess, and is thus compressed by both the surfaces 17, 19. When the joint is complete, the surfaces 12, 16 and 14, 20 are respectively in contact.
