Abstract

Junction pieces; cup-leather, overlap joints.- Two pipes, 3, 4 of unequal diameter are connected by a junction piece 2, of the shape shown, fluid tightness at the ends of said junction being obtained by means of a hollow packing-ring 9 of flexible material having inturned edges 7, 8 adapted to bear on end portions 5, 6 of the pipes and junction piece respectively, subjected to the pressure of fluid in the pipes. Each packing-ring 9 is positioned in a housing 10, recessed at 11, 12 to fit over the end flanges 5, 6, and divided into two portions connected together by bolts 13. In a modification, the junction piece comprises a short length of pipe of the same diameter as that of the smaller of the pipes to be jointed, and provided with a flange at one end corresponding to the larger of the pipes ; or the bore of the junction piece may be conical and the respective ends thereof of the same size as the corresponding pipes to be joined.
