Abstract
268,303. Bille, L. March 24, 1926, [Convention date]. Joint-making packing.- A rubber &c. jointing ring 1, Fig. 2, between the spigot and socket ends of two pipes is provided with a grooved inner bead having diverging limbs 2 and a similar outer bead 3, the limbs of each bead being initially compressed when the joint is assembled and thereafter subjected to internal or external pressure to secure effective fluid-tightness. The ring may be fastened to the spigot pipe end by a wire lying in the groove of the outer bead, or it may be embedded in the material of the pipe during manufacture by providing it with dovetails 8, Fig. 5. One of the beads may be dispensed with.
