Abstract

444,217. Pipe &c. joints. ENGLISH STEEL CORPORATION, Ltd., Vickers House, and CLEGHORN, G. S., 14, Hardwick Crescent, both in Sheffield. Dec. 31, 1934, No. 37334. [Class 99 (i)] In a pipe joint in which fluidtightness is effected by a flexible sealing ring 4 located within oppositely arranged cooperating recesses 3 formed in the inner surfaces of the adjacent ends of abutting pipes 1, 2, the edges 6 of the sealing ring engage the end walls of the recesses and the ring itself is bowed or bent outwardly as shown so that it will tend to flatten when subjected to internal fluid pressure. The edges of the sealing ring are preferably turned or rolled over outwardly or inwardly or formed as beads to coact with correspondingly radiused parts of the recesses, and a convex backing ring 8 located external of the sealing ring may be provided to prevent collapse of the latter.
