Abstract
477,225. Pipe joints. SHOTTON, E. R. June 18, 1936, Nos. 16937 and 20246. [Class 99 (i)] A pipe joint comprises a flanged split ring d which is wedged, in conjunction with a packing ring e, between a pipe a and a sleeve or socket c by the action of bolts f. The ring d is conical and the sleeve has a corresponding flare c<1>. The packing may be wrapped round the ring or be compressed against an abutment in the sleeve or be of cup-leather type. Each pipe end may be gripped by a split ring located in opposite ends of a sleeve or one pipe may be formed with a socket a<1>, Fig. 9, the flanged ring being bolted to a loose ring i. The ring d is wedged in a ring j which interlocks with a cup-leather packing e. In another modification, the split rings are internally tapered and engage with rings g, Fig. 5, which interlock with the pipes, the packing e being of the sleeve type bridging the pipe ends.
