Abstract
515,379. Turning-gear. BOSCH GES., R., (formerly BOSCH AKT.-GES., R.). May 31, 1938, No. 16175. Convention date, May 31; 1937. [Class 7 (v)] In a starter for aircraft or other engines comprising a flywheel 18 adapted to be set in rotation by a turbine 10 or other compressed air or gas motor and then coupled by a clutch 24 to the engine to be started, the turbine or motor is driven either by compressed air or gas from a container 12 on the aircraft &c. or by air or gas at higher pressure from a main 30 through a coupling 29. When the main air or gas supply is turned on, the clutch 24 is automatically engaged by means of a rod 27 and levers 26, 25 actuated by a piston 33 in a cylinder 32 connected to the coupling 29 so that the flywheel cannot be run up to a dangerous speed before the clutch is engaged. When air or gas from the container 12 is used, the clutch is engaged at will by means of a cable 28 actuated manually or by means of a solenoid. As shown, the flywheel 18 is connected to the clutch 24 through gearing 19.... 22 and a disc or other friction clutch 23. The turbine rotor 14 drives the flywheel by means of a clutch 16, 17 which is automatically engaged when the member 16 is driven. The piston 33 may be replaced by a diaphragm, or by a membrane serving to energise a coupling solenoid.
