Abstract

494,857. Electric resonators. PINTSCH AKT.-GES., J. Jan. 30, 1937, No. 2817. Convention date, Jan. 31, 1936. [Class 40 (iii)] A coilless resonator has its least dimension not substantially less than the wave-length to which it is tuned, so that nodal lines of oscillatory electric and magnetic flux are formed as closed curves in the space enclosed by the resonator. The latter may comprise a cylinder with a slit parallel to its axis, or an entire cylinder excited inductively, or a toroid 11 in which the lines of electric flux are closed curves around the circular axis of the toroid while the lines of magnetic flux are circles with their centres on the axis 5, or in which the converse condition holds. Damping may be reduced by coating the resonator with polished copper or silver or by keeping it at a low temperature. In modifications the directions of the electric and magnetic flux may be interchanged, and in a cylinder the resonator may in that case be excited by means of a rod projecting into one end of the cylinder.
