568,436. Inductances. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Sept. 30, 1943, No. 16040. Convention date, Sept. 30, 1942. [Class 38 (ii)] A variable inductance for permeability tuning in wireless receivers is provided with a movable " tapered " core 1 of at least twice the length of the coil 3 so as to increase the range of movement and thus permit of direct coupling between the core-moving mechanism 9 and the tuning indicator 13 while retaining a long open scale 15. The " tapering" may be in steps, Fig. 1, or continuous. Fig. 2, or it may be produced by a graded distribution of the magnetic particles of which the core is composed. Specification 412,642, [Group XXXVI], is referred to.
