Abstract
549,459. Inductors. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. May 19, 1941, No. 6446. Convention date, May 17, 1940. [Class 38 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXVI] In a permeability tuning system, for improving tracking between the serial circuit and the oscillator circuit, the effect of an oscillator coil with a variable pitch winding is produced by winding back a few turns so as to be superimposed on the end turns of the winding, the direction of winding being kept the same. Fig. 2 shows an aerial coil 7 and oscillator coil 9 uni-controlled by identical cores 8, 11 connected to a frame 49; 50 slidable by means of a cord 53 and knob 52. To facilitate tracking, the last few turns 10 of coil 9 are wound back over the other turns, keeping the winding direction the same and thus producing the effect of a variable pitch winding. Coil 9 is of greater diameter than coil 7 since the frequency range is less. In addition core 8 is made to enter coil 7 slightly in advance of the entry of core 11 into coil 9. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown) the superimposed turns 10 are wound on an insulating sleeve slidable on the inner turns.
