937,175. Tunable cavity resonators. BUDAVOX BUDAPESTI HIRADASTECHNIKAI VALLALAT. Nov. 12, 1959 [Nov. 19, 1958], No. 38481/59. Class 40 (8). A cavity resonator comprises interconnected tuning elements for varying the quality factor constructed of materials having differing loss factors, the dimensions of the tuning elements being such that the resonance frequency of the cavity is not varied by their common movements. A tuning piston 3 is movable in the tube 2 in the wall of the cavity resonator 1 by the insulated rod 4 and is made of high loss materials such as iron powder cores, or insulating materials saturated with graphite, or a ferromagnetic material. A second tuning piston 6 is movable in the tube 5 by the insulated rod 7 and is made of insulating material or metal having a different loss factor from that of the piston 3. The rods 4 and 7 can be connected together directly by the rod 8 or indirectly by a transmission system. A magnet can be used for moving the rod 8.
