Abstract

577,662. Electric resonators. AUTOMATIC TELEPHONE & ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and TURNEY, T. H. May 3, 1944, No. 8311. Drawings to Specification. [Class 40 (iii)] A cavity resonator has an adjustable frequency which is independent of temperature or has a desired temperature characteristic, as a result of the difference between the coefficients of expansion of the materials of which it is composed. A cylinder of invar is closed at one end by a temperature-compensating piston of copper which can be shifted axially and clamped in position to give a coarse adjustment of frequency, and at the other end by an invar piston with a micrometer adjustment. The invar is preferably plated with silver or copper. The resonator is coupled to a wave guide through an aperture in one or in each of the pistons or in the side wall.
