Abstract
604,095. Inductances. GUILLEMANT, R. E. Nov. 23, 1945, No. 31709. Convention date, Feb. 5, 1943. [Class 38 (ii)] A variable, high frequency, inductance with a movable magnetic core 4, comprises a coil divided into sections, each in a separate groove 2 of a former 1, the number of turns in each section being so selected as to give a predetermined relationship between displacement of the core and resonant frequency of the tuned circuit in which the inductance is connected. This relationship may be linear. The coils may be of enamel-covered stranded wire, and the grooves may be filled after winding with powdered magnetic material, some of this being removed as a factory adjustment in calibrating the inductance. The cores of two inductances in a superheterodyne receiver may be ganged for simultaneous movement, one inductance being in the high frequency circuit and the other in the heterodyne circuit. The latter may be in series with a similar smaller inductance, optionally with a magnetic core, and inductively coupled to an oscillation maintaining coil.
