Abstract
546,248. Valve circuits for wireless reception. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Jan. 2, 1941, No. 91. Convention date, Jan. 2, 1940. [Class 40 (v)] In a superheterodyne circuit, tracking is improved in a pair of unicontrolled permeability tuned inductances by providing a condenser in shunt with a portion of the oscillator coil. Ir the Figure, a mixer 10 is fed by an aerial coil 5 tuned by a movable coi 7 and an oscillator core 6 tuned by a movable core 8, the cores 7 and 8 being uni-controlled In one frequency range the coil 5 is connectec to the aerial 22 by means of a ganged pai of switches 23, 24 through a series con denser 21 and shunt con denser 20, while for a second frequency range these are replaced re spectively by condensers 26 and 26a. The oscillator circuit which is of the Colpitts type is tuned by the condensers 27, 28 in one range which for the second range have connected across them, by means of a switch 37, condensers 35 and 36. Tracking at the extremities of the range is ensured by making the coil 6 of slightly greater diameter than coil 5. Tracking at a middle point is attained by connecting a condenser 33 across a portion of coil 6 while for the other range a second capacity 43 is connected across 33 by a switch 42 ganged with switch 37. An additional inductance 44 is connected in series with condenser 35.
