Abstract

551,064. Wireless receiving apparatus. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. (Naamlooze Vennootschap Philips' Gloeilampenfabrieken). Dec. 18, 1941, No. 16374. [Class 40 (v)] A receiver adapted to be tuned in a continuous manner over a broad short-wave range, and also to be tuned with band-spreading in at least two narrow short-wave bands, in which the bandspread tuning is effected by the same variable condenser used for continuous tuning and fixed condensers are connected in series and in parallel with the variable condenser, is characterized in that the same series and parallel capacity is used for the various spread-bands and changing from one such band to another is effected by varying the inductance of the resonant circuit. The Figure shows the invention applied to the preselector and oscillator circuits 2, 3 of a mixer 1 the intermediate frequency output of which is applied through a tuned circuit 4 to the subsequent stages 5. With switches 12, 22 in the positions shown, continuous tuning over a broad short wave band is effected by ganged variable condensers 10, 20 in conjunction with coils 11 and 21 respectively. When switches 12, 22 are moved to the lower position, condensers 13, 14 and 23, 24 are connected in series and parallel with condensers 10, 20 for band-spreading, the particular spread band being selected by connecting one of coils 16 ... 18 or 26 ... 28 in parallel with coils 11 and 21 by means of switches 15 and 25.
