Abstract
616,240. Inductances. PANNELL, W. M., SHILLING, A. H., and PYE, Ltd. Aug. 31, 1946, No. 26278. [Class 38 (ii)] [Also in Groups V and XL (c)] A variable inductor comprises a coil with a coaxial moving core, which coil is embedded in a body of non-magnetic insulating material so that there is only a thin wall of insulating material between the body and the bore in which the core moves. A coil 1 is wound over one or more layers of tape which may be of plastic such as polythene on a mandrel. A cylindrical insulating body 2 with a plate projection 4 is moulded, for example by injection, round the coil and mandrel. The latter is then removed leaving a cylindrical hole 5 through which the permeable core 6 can pass separated from the coil 1 by the thickness of the tape only. Fig. 4 shows two such inductors 15, 18 each with an associated condenser 14, 17 embedded in a single block 12 of moulded insulating material. Rotation of a rod 21 mounted in brackets on the end of a metal screen 22 embedded between the two coils 15 18 moves a cord 20 which passes round a pulley 23 and carries the two cores 16, 19. Two circuits are thus tuned simultaneously.
