Abstract
623,455. Inductances. BROWN, W. F. Jan. 13, 1947, No. 1095. [Class 38 (ii)] In order that the inductance of a coil may be continuously variable over a wide range, the coil, a non-magnetic conductive container and a high permeability magnetic core are all mounted on a common axis, with the container and core fixed relative to one another, and the coil is made relatively movable between a position in which it is completely housed by the container to a position in which it is filled by the core. In a preferred arrangement the coil a1 is relatively movable from a position of minimum inductance in which it is contained by the conducting cylinder 1a, in which position it contains the conducting non-magnetic core g, to a position of maximum inductance in which the coil embraces only the magnetic dust core 2a. The core g may be threaded to provide the adjusting means. The invention may be incorporated with condensers to form tuning units.
