Abstract
640,618. Inductances and transformers. CINEMA-TELEVISION, Ltd., and HILL, F. L. June 4, 1948, No. 15121. [Class 38 (ii)] A coil comprising a plurality of serially-connected sections 1-8 enclosing different areas having parts 9, 10, 11 of their boundaries in common so that all but the first section 1 includes an area, e.g. B, or C or ... H adjacent and additional that included by the electrically continguous section, is disposed about the axis of a movable coil with which it is inductively coupled, so as to subtend at that axis substantially more than 180 degrees. The additional areas B-H may be equal. The first coil may be wound on a cylindrical surface, or may form a segment of a ring as shown in Fig. 2, where one part of each coil section passes through one of many radial slots in an annular insulating boss standing up from base 12, the common parts of the sections passing at 13 through a wide gap in the boss. The cooperating coil 16 passes from the position shown, of negative mutual inductance, to one of maximum positive mutual inductance, and has one end skew to the end turns of the first coil so that the variation is gradual.
