Abstract

746,032. Inductors. HENNIKER, R. C. Feb. 15, 1954 [Feb. 17, 1953], No. 4403/53. Class 38 (2). A variable inductor comprises a winding A wound on a magnetic core B together with a movable contact device C comprising two or more contact members D which moves along the winding to contact a selected turn, the two members D being connected by a coil K wound on a magnetic core G which is in the form of an annular ring surrounding the winding A, the voltage impressed on the coil K from the tapped turns being arranged to be opposite to the E.M.F. induced in the coil G by the magnetic field associated with the winding A. Two or more similar contacting devices may be used. The coil K and core G may be arranged to move together with the contact device C. The circuit connection to the inductor is made by way of a centre-tap M at the coil K and the core G may be provided with an air gap H. Speci. fication 670,305 is referred to.
