Abstract
1,067,677. D.C. current measurement. UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHAMPTON AND BRITISH PETROLEUM CO. Ltd. Oct. 9, 1963 [Nov. 1, 1962], No. 41358/62. Heading G1U. [Also in Division H3] A magnetic transducer used in apparatus for measuring D.C. current consists of two annular magnetic cores 11, 12 in close proximity, each carrying substantially identical input windings 13, 14 connected in series and wound so that alternating current supplied to them causes the cores to be magnetically saturated in opposed directions. The resultant flux in the transducer is substantially zero and no voltage is induced in an output winding 16 which is wound round both cores and their windings. A D. C. current carried by a conductor 22 passing through the transducer causes a proportionate output voltage to be induced in the output winding. A ring shaped shield of metal 26 extends round the cores and their windings to reduce the effects of extraneous fields. The transducer is fabricated in two parts so that it may be placed round a conductor such as a pipe. The cores may be made from a web form magnetic material wound on a wooden former.
