Abstract
974,760. Electrophonic organs. A. H. MICHEL. Nov. 6, 1961 [Nov. 9, 1960], No. 39621/61, Heading G5J. [Also in Divisions H1 and H3] A non-contact making switch in an electrophonic organ comprises a transformer with a magnetic core providing a variable magnetic coupling between primary and secondary windings and core being saturated or de-saturated by means of a movable permanent magnet. The impedance of the secondary winding at least is varied along with the magnetic coupling. In Fig. 4 a permanent magnet normally saturates a ferrite core D. The coupling between windings A, B is restored as the magnet is shifted. The core D may have a stepped cross-sectional area so that only the part of the core D within winding B is saturated. The core may have a toroidal form, Fig. 6. The toroidal core may have a varying cross-sectional area, Fig. 7. In a known switch having no permanent magnet, a core D, Fig. 3 is shifted between primary and secondary windings A, B to control the coupling. A core F of electrical conducting material ensures that the reactance of winding B is low when the coupling is low. Coil C compensates for any disturbance induced by winding A in winding B when contact E is closed.
