A magnetic amplifier having two annular cores 3, 4 (Fig. 2), separated by an insulating washer 5 has the A.C. windings 1 and 2, each arranged on its core in six, sixteen or thirty segments. The control windings 6, 7, 8 (Fig. 1) and bias winding 9, which link both cores, are each wound to cover separate parts of the circumference proportionate to their numbers of turns.
