Abstract
899,704. Transformers and inductances. SOC. D'ELECTRONIQUE ET D'AUTOMATISME. Aug. 29, 1958 [Nov. 13, 1957], No. 27871/58. Class 38 (2). A variable ratio transformer or variable inductance comprises two discs 24, 23 (Fig. 4) of iron or steel strip wound in a spiral and carrying respectively primary and secondary coils formed on adjacent faces by printed wiring, the discs being assembled on a common axis and separated by a narrow air gap so that coupling between the windings can be varied by rotation of one disc 23 or alternatively by rotation of an interposed diamagnetic screening member. Each disc may carry two coils 2, 3 shaped as shown in Fig. 1 and connected so that, during one half cycle, current flows in the directions shown by arrows 6, 7. Alternatively, one disc may have four coils 11, 12, 13, 14 (Fig. 2) or more. The screening member has a number of sector-shaped blades equal to half the number of coils on the disc having the greater number of coils, each blade being wide enough to cover one of these coils when centred over it.
