Abstract

605,114. Inductances. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., TURNER, H. C., and HARTLAND, G. W. Dec. 14, 1945, No. 33907. [Class 38 (ii)] The inductance of a toroidal coil is varied by the movement of a magnetic member within an aperture in the core. Fig. 1 shows a cylindrical iron dust slug 3 mounted on a phosphor bronze, brass or other non-magnetic screw 4 which moves upon rotation across an aperture 1 in the core 2. Fig. 3 shows a semi-circular slug 3 which is rotated in the aperture 1, or the slug may be elongated, Fig. 4 (not shown). alternatively a rectangular slug may move across a gap between two ends of the core which are joined by non-magnetic plates, Fig. 5 (not shown). Fig. 6 shows a housing 7 into which the slug 3 is completely withdrawn. According to the Provisional Specification, screw 4 may be replaced by a wire.
