Abstract
1409789 Loudspeakers GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 28 Dec 1972 [21 Jan 1972] 59779/72 Heading H4J A permanent magnet assembly for a loudspeaker comprises a radially magnetized ring- shaped permanent magnet 8 (Fig. 2) and a return path element 7 having two concentric ring- shaped members 9, 10 defining between them an opening at one end into which fits the permanent magnet 8. The other end of the return path element 7 has at least one small bridge, preferably three bridges 17, 18, 19 (Fig. 3) connecting members 9 and 10. At the open end the member 10 is of thickness greater than the remainder of the member 10. At the open end a polepiece 21 forms an air gap with member 10, the other end being in contact with member 10. A voice coil 4 wound on a form is coupled to a diaphragm (2), Fig. 1 (not shown). The permanent magnet may be of barium or strontium ferrite, cobalt-rare earth magnets of the Co5Sm type, " Alnico ", fine particle elongate of single domain magnets, or iron or iron-cobalt alloys. Loudspeakers of different characteristics may be obtained by using permanent magnets of different lengths.
