Abstract
594,862. Electromagnetic interrupters. PLESSEY CO., Ltd. July 3, 1945, No. 16874. Convention date, July 3, 1944. [Class 38(v)] An electromagnetic interrupter which may be used as a potential changer comprises ferromagnetic members 10, 11 embracing a coil 15, a vibrating armature 29, and permanent magnets 12, 13. One cheek 16 of the coil 15 is ferromagnetic to complete the magnetic circuit and the armature 29 passes through the centre of the coil 15. The reed 23, 29 with its contacts 34 is clamped between the members 10, 11 together with fixed contact members 20, 25 and insulating spacers 19, 21, 24, 26. Further contacts 35, 38, 39 are mounted on members 20, 23, 25 behind contacts 34, 36, 37. When the coil 15 is energised through contacts 34, 36, the armature 29 moves to change contact 34 over from 36 to 37, simultaneously changing contact 35 over from 38 to 39 to rectify the output of a transformer 41. As the armature 29 moves, a pulse from the temporarily de-energised half of the primary winding 40 replaces the direct current flowing through the coil 15. The. bar magnets 12, 13 may be replaced by U-shaped magnets embracing the coil 15, Fig. 3 (not shown), both cheeks of this coil being non-magnetic. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises further modifications wherein one or two electromagnets 108, 109 are connected across the battery in place of the magnets 12, 13, Fig. 7 (Cancelled). This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
