Abstract

645,404. Electromagnetic switches. SIEMENS BROS. & CO., Ltd. May 1, 1947, No. 11703. [Class 38(v)] In a polarized relay the armature 3 moves perpendicularly to the flux owing to the change in reluctance caused by such movement. In the form shown the armature is provided as shown in Fig. 4, with an aperture 4 and moves up or down in the gaps between the pole pieces shown. A U-shaped polarizing magnet 27 causes flux to pass in parallel across the two gaps and the one flux is strengthened and the other opposed when a coil 15 is energized by current in one direction or the other, so that the one gap has more influence on the armature than the other and moves it accordingly to operate contact springs 1 or similar set (not shown) below. The armature is held by two springs 31 against the four ends of two V-shaped wires 30 the centre parts of which pass through and so pivot about holes in a rod 34.
