Abstract

1276899 Electromagnets; electromagnetic relays ROBERTSHAW CONTROLS CO 1 Aug 1969 [2 Aug 1968] 38768/69 Headings H1N and H1P An electromagnet, which may operate a relay or a valve, comprises a U-core 10 of magnetic material (Fig. 1) having a single leg 15, a yoke 16, and a leg 22 with respect to which other legs 20, 24 are symmetrically disposed; mounted on a non-magnetic frame 32 (Fig. 2) with an A.C. energized winding 40 on leg 15, on which, as fulcrum, armature 42 loaded by spring 44 is held by leaf spring 48; the armature operating e.g. relay contacts or a valve and having protrusion 46 at an end to firmly contact the pole of leg 22 with equalized airgaps at poles of legs 20, 24. A copper shading ring surrounds leg 22 to prevent chattering.
