Abstract
1361950 Polarized relays SIEMENS AG 5 July 1972 [7 July 1971] 31370/72 Heading H1N A bi-stable polarized relay has a permanent magnet 5 and a pole shoe 6 which covers a subsidiary zone pole face of the permanent magnet 5 to convey flux to a main armature section 8 whilst flux is conveyed from a second, subsidiary, zone 5b mainly via an auxiliary armature section 9. When the relay coil 1 is energized in one direction its flux assists the permanent magnet flux in air gaps L1, L2 and opposes that in L3. When the coil 1 is energized in the other direction it assists the P.M. flux in gap L3 and opposes the flux in gaps L1, L2. The magnet 5 acts as two magnets with separate flux paths and the magnetization of its zones 5a, 5b may be varied by use of a demagnetizing electromagnet (Fig. 5, not shown) with its poles placed near the respective zones. Yoke parts 7 extending from the shoe 6 may be at opposite sides of the coil (Fig. 2, not shown) and the magnetic coupling between the zone 9b and the auxiliary armature part 29 may be increased by an additional shoe (Fig. 3, not shown) or by a bent over end of the armature part (Fig. 4, not shown).
