1502529 Electromagnets CENTRUM BADAWCZO - KONSTRUKCYJNE OBRABIAREK 13 May 1976 [15 May 1975] 19705/76 Heading H1P An A.C. electromagnet comprises a housing 1 containing a laminated ferromagnetic body 2 enclosing a coil 2; a laminated armature 4 having a leg 7 within the coil with a face 14 displaced by an air gap from an opposed face of a sleeve projecting into the coil from body 2. An operating pin 8 is also carried by the armature, which has laterally extending members 5 whose faces 13 are separated from corresponding faces 13<SP>1</SP> of body 2. This carries projections 6 of reduced thickness spaced by a small air gap 12 from the ends of members 5. Body 2 is located axially on resilient washers 9, 10 and the armature rests on resilient buffer 1 when the coil is de-energized. When the latter is energized flux # of the coil divides into flux #<SP>1</SP> between surfaces 13, 13<SP>1</SP> and flux #<SP>11</SP> between projections 6 and armature members 5 so that the operating flux is reinforced. The magnetic section of the air gaps between surfaces 13, 13<SP>1</SP> and the projections 6 is chosen to obtain a required force/energization characteristic, and armature 4 is attracted so that surfaces 13, 14; 13<SP>1</SP>, 14<SP>1</SP> are in contact. On de-energization the armature is returned to buffer 7 by gravity or pressure on pin 8.
