Abstract
1,102,811. Electromagnets. PLESSEY-UK Ltd. 25 May, 1965 [25 May, 1964], No. 21562/64. Heading HIP. A rotary solenoid comprises an electrically energizable stator having two confronting, scalloped surfaces defining at least one pair of opposed polepieces and an angularly diaplaoeable magnetizable armature arranged for movement between the scalloped surfaces such that when the stator is energized the armature will be moved to a position corresponding to minimum reluctance between the polepieces. Fig. 2 shows a rotary electromagnet comprising a cup-shaped yoke 2 having a ferromagnetic core 1 carrying a coil (not shown). When the coil is energized, ferromagnetic portions 15 of an armature are rotated against the bias of a spring into the air gaps between the poles formed in members 1, 2. Figs. 3, 4 (not shown), relate to a pair of coils contained in a common cup-shaped yoke separated by a common rotatable armature. In Figs. 5, 6 (not shown), the poles are formed on the end surfaces of a pair of opposed cores (1) separated by a common fan-shaped rotatable armature.
