Abstract

1365611 Reed contact units INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP 30 Aug 1972 [6 Sept 1971] 40124/72 Heading H1N A sealed magnetic reed contact unit has a pair of reed contact sets 2, 3 in a common envelope 1 arranged with the reeds of each set sealed through the same end of the envelope 1 and one reed 7, 9 of each set has a doubled back portion 10, 11 forming an armature which has a portion 16, 17 adjacent thereto made of non- ferromagnetic conductive material. Each set of contacts 2, 3 may be biased by a permanent magnet 18, 19 and each magnet may bias contact sets of a plurality of contact units each of which has an operating coil 20. The short reed of each contact set may have a projecting non- magnetic contact tip (Fig. 2, not shown) providing a magnetic gap on contact closure. When permanent magnets are not provided the armatures may be remanent. Fig. 3 shows doubled back portions 10b, 11b suspended on entirely or partially non-magnetic springs 23, 24.
