Abstract

739,515. Inductors. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. March 18, 1954 [March 21, 1953], No. 7900/54. Class 38 (2). An inductor has a coil 1, wound on a core 2 of substantially non-conductive ferromagnetic material of high permeability, the core 2 being in the form of a tube in which is accommodated a rod 3 of substantially non- conductive permanent magnetic material thereby producing a premagnetizing field inside the core. As shown in Fig. 1 the rod 3 is relatively fixed and is magnetized at right-angles to the axis of the rod so that the field of the rod is at right angles to that produced by the coil 1. In another embodiment the coil covers a larger axial length of the core and the rod is relatively movable and, in contrast to the rod 3 in Fig. 1, is axially magnetized so that its field is parallel to that produced by the coil.
