Abstract

766,857. Magnetic structures; magnetizing permanent magnets. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. March 2, 1955 [March 5, 1954], No. 6177/55. Classes 35 and 38 (2). [Also in Group XL (a)] Two permanent ring magnets, preferably of " ferroxdure ", magnetized as in Fig. 1, form an electron lens. A ring 1, Fig. 4, is polarized by means of two coils 13, 14 so wound and/or with such a choice of turns that an oblique resultant field Hp is produced. The edges of the rings opposite the edges NS may be bevelled. The ratio of axial to radial thickness d/h is preferably 2/3 to 3/2. In the lens system a spring between the rings compensates magnetic field changes due to temperature.
