Abstract

914,371. Induction coils. BAERMANN, M. March 7, 1960 [March 13, 1959], No. 8043/60. Class 38 (2). [Also in Group XXVII] An ignition coil has disc-shaped permanent magnets 106 (Fig. 4) of high resistance material arranged in its magnetic circuit to premagnetize the core in a direction opposing the direction of the flux produced by the primary winding 103. Crossed ferromagnetic strips 104, 105 may form pole shoes while strips 107 close the magnetic circuit on at least two sides of the core. In another embodiment the magnetic return path 46 (Fig. 3) may be cylindrical with the core 42 perpendicular or parallel to the axis of the cylinder, the ends of the cylinder being closed by covers. The permanent magnets may be formed by two magnetized portions of the cylinder which is shown in broken lines. The coil may have pins connected to its L.T. winding by which it can be plugged into sockets which may be mounted on a base-plate secured to a distributer (Fig. 6, not shown). Alternatively the coil may be disposed in an insulating tube mounted on a distributer closure cap (Fig. 7, not shown).
