Abstract
1279509 Electromagnets C. BURKERT 21 Oct 1970 [19 Nov 1969] 49972/70 Heading H1P A plunger type armature magnet, e.g. for lifting loads or operating valves comprises (Fig. 1) a coil 1 wound on spool 2 and enclosed by temperature resistant plastic 3, electrically energized over lugs 4; a plunger armature 5 surrounded by non-magnetizable layer 6 sliding in ferrite pole sleeve 7 in opposition to fixed pole 8 surrounded by ferrite pole sleeve 9; the ends of the sleeve being bevelled and separated by non-magnetic pressure-tight spacer 10; the armature operating push rod 11 passing axially through a bore 12 of pole 8. The system may be oil filled and armature 5 grooved at 13, while pole 8 is eccentrically bored at 14. A closure 15 is sealed to pole sleeve 7 by elastic 0-ring 16 and screws 17 holding the device to a fixing plate (not shown) against 0-ring 18. Three square stamped and bored flange plates 21 are superimposedly pressed on to pole sleeve 7 and on to pole sleeve 9 respectively and the external magnet circuit is completed by two adjacently abutting right angled ferromagnetic stator plates 22 (Fig. 2) or U-shaped plates (Fig. 3, not shown) surrounding the assembly, which are welded to the flange plates 21 by resistance or protective gas process. In a modification (Fig. 4, not shown) the magnetic circuit is formed by stamped out one-piece U-shaped members (Figs. 5 to 11, not shown) suitably apertured, which are disposed at 90 degrees to each other and welded to the pole sleeves 7, 9; a ferrite plate being assembled under the lower ends of the members and also welded thereto. In assembly, the magnet coil is inserted after the welding to sleeve 9 and before welding to sleeve 7 or vice versa. An insulant washer and rotation disc may be placed between the upper flange of the coil and the ends of the members. Alternatively, box-shaped ferromagnetic structures may be inserted one within the other and welded together to complete the magnetic circuit.
