953,106. Visible signalling apparatus. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. May 20,1960 [May 23, 1959], No. 17864/60. Heading G4F. An electromagnetic two-position visual indicating device comprises an armature 6 (Figs. 1 and 2) or 56 (Fig. 5) rotatable between the poles of a substantially U-shaped magnetizable yoke 1, 2 or 51, 52 provided with an energizing coil 7 or 57, the armature including a permanent magnet member 8 or 58 and an indicating member, such as differently coloured insulating plates 9 and 10 or an insulating moulding 60 having a light-coloured layer 62 on one face; the permanent magnet member is of a ferrite material of substantially non-cubic crystals of polyoxides of iron and at least one of the metals barium, strontium, lead, and calcium, and the armature has two final positions a quarter turn or more apart, the direction of magnetization of the permanent magnet member being such that the armature is held magnetically in either of the two final positions and produces a magnetic flux in the yoke in opposite directions for the two positions. The permanent magnet member 8 may consist of a layer of magnetic powder, with a binder which also affixes the insulating plates 9 and 10 to the layer 8. The armature may have an electrically conductive coating and be arranged to interconnect electric contacts on the yoke in one or both of its final positions, Fig. 3 (not shown).
