Abstract
643,935. Transformers and inductances. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL, Ltd. May 27, 1948, No. 14343. Convention date, May 30, 1947. [Class 38 (ii)] In a high-frequency inductance or transformer a winding surrounds a cylindrical ferromagnetic core in an axially disposed hole in which moves a ferromagnetic plunger, the arrangement being such that as the plunger moves out of the hole the inductance of the winding increases. The core must not project from the winding by a distance more than half the core diameter. The result is obtained by making at least the core from a material, e.g. a ceramic such as a ferrite, having a permeability not less than 100, .so that the plunger emerging into a region of fairly high flux density reduces the reluctance of the flux path as a whole more than the space created inside the core increases it. Two windings variably coupled by a movable magnetic rod 27, preferably of ferrite, are mounted in housings 11, 11<SP>1</SP> moulded in a carrier member 19 which divides screening box 23 into two divisions which house respectively the leads to the two coils. Each winding 1 is mounted on a cylindrical core 7 in which moves a plunger 9 mounted on and moved by a non- magnetic screw 15. During manufacture the winding 1 is wound centrally on core 7 and after impregnation with wax the core is pushed through until one end is flush with one face of the winding. Specifications 433,366, [Group XXXVI], 629,946 and 637,099 are referred to.
