658,938. Inductances and transformers. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Aug. 17, 1949, No. 21398. [Class 38 (ii)] A variable inductance has the value of the inductance of the coil 3 adjusted by axial movement of a screw - threaded metallic core 4 within a correspondingly screw-threaded former 1, means being provided for holding the core in any adjusted position comprising a rubberlike band 7 mounted in a circumferential groove 6 in the core such that the band is in engagement with the screw-thread on the former. Thus the position of the core is capable of readjustment. The core may be of compressed powdered magnetic material or may be non- magnetic. A further winding may be placed on the former 1 so forming an electrical transformer.
