Abstract
632,355. Aerials. POLYDOROFF, W. J. April 27, 1944, No. 7922. [Class 40 (vii)] A loop aerial for direc, tion-finding comprises a pair of coils wound on an elongated ferromagnetic core and so connected that the effects of dis. placement currents are neutralized. Preferably the cores are of finely. divided magnetic ma. terial as described in Specification 522,492, and have a wide pitch so that, for a given value of the inductance, many turns spread over a long core may be used for the purpose of increasing the effective height. In order that the windings 11, 12, Fig. 1, may be close to the hollow core 13 they are located in spiral grooves in the insulating sheath 15 which encloses the core. The windings 11, 12 have their terminals at the middle and are connected at their outer ends, so that the effects of displacement current, enhanced by the length of the coils, cancel one another. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), two coils may be wound in opposite senses and connected in parallel at the middle of the aerial. The two windings may have separate cores with a central gap between them, Fig. 3 (not shown), and they may be wound obliquely, Fig. 4, the angle between them lying between 15 degrees and 25 degrees.
