Abstract

720,721. Aerials. GRUNDIG, M. Feb. 17, 1953 [May 23,1962; Aug. 9, 1952], No. 4418/63. Class 40 (7). An aerial comprises a coil K of high permeability magnetic material and of elongated form on which is mounted at least two coils I and II located on the core at points where the product of the inductance (L) and the Q factor at the frequency of use, is approximately at its maximum value. Fig. 1 shows graphically above a diagram of the aerial the variations of L, Q, and LXQ, for variations in the positioning of the coils. The core need not be straight but may be of S, C, or angular shape and the coils are preferably subdivided into separate spaced serially connected small coils S<SP>1</SP>, S<SP>2</SP>, S<SP>3</SP> and S<SP>4</SP>, S<SP>5</SP>, S<SP>6</SP>. One of the coils may be mounted adjustably for tuning purposes and the aerial is most sensitive if the higher potential ends of the coils face inwards. An aerial, Fig. 2 (not shown), arranged according to the invention for a number of wave ranges may consist of a ferrite core wound with two silver plated copper tape coils in series brought out to the short wave-band connection terminals, a set of two sectioned coils similar to those of Fig. 1 brought out to the medium wave-band terminals, and two extra sectioned coils that may be connected in series with the medium band coils for use over the long wave-band. When the aerial is to be used for ultra-short waves the core K is made to resonate as a dipole in the range to be received and coupling to it effected by any suitable means.
