Abstract
457,468. Directive wireless signalling. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and STRONG, C. E., Connaught House, Aldwych, London. May 28, 1935, No. 15510. [Class 40 (v)] In order to minimize highangle radiation the exciting current is fed to a vertical cantilever aerial 1, comprising an insulated cantilever structure having an electrical length of greater than one quarter wavelength, at a point between the extremities preferably at a current loop, by a non- radiating transmission line 2. The line 2 comprises a concentric tube cable connected across such a length of the antenna that it is terminated by its characteristic impedance and preferably symmetrically about the voltage node one quarter wavelength from the free end. The line may be coupled to the antenna by an impedance matching transformer, Fig. 7 (not shown), and is preferably wound into a coil 3 the inductance of which is such that the antenna and coil in series are tuned to the operating frequency.
