Abstract
481,950. Aerials. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and WAGSTAFFE, C. F. A. Sept. 18, 1936, No. 25445. [Class 40 (v)] Lighting current is fed from supply-mains P to a signal lamp L at the top of an aerial mast without adversely affecting either the radiating properties or the directional effect of the aerial. Separate transformers are used for the lighting and signalling currents. In the Figure, the twisted conductors C act in parallel as one of the limbs of an Adcock directional aerial, signal currents being transferred through the two windings of a transformer RT and a radio-frequency cable RF. The aerial is earthed through condensers K, K1. A separate power transformer PT1 supplies the lighting current. In an alternative arrangement the aerial wires are earthed through a centre tapping on the secondary winding of the power-supply transformer, this tapping being connected in series with the secondary winding of the radio-frequency transformer. The magnetizing current taken by the power transformer may be compensated by a pair of polarized electrolytic condensers, arranged as described in Specification 481,949, [Group XXXV]. The aerial may consist of a separate metal tube, with the two conductors arranged inside or outside it.
