Abstract
543,376. Aerials. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Aug. 31, 1940, No. 13699. Convention date, Aug. 31, 1939. [Class 40 (v)] A di-pole aerial system, especially intended for use on aircraft for direction finding, comprises a pair of di-pole conductors 1 with conducting members 18 at their ends, a transmission line 5 connected to the conductors 1 and formed with a bulge 7, and a tuning member 9 in the bulge 7. The di-pole is enclosed in a fixed streamlined non-conducting casing 29, Fig. 2, and the di-pole with the line 5 is rotatable by means of a handle 31. The tuning member, which may be in the form of a disc, is rotatably adjusted by means of a knob 35. The transmission line 5 is screened by sleeves 21, 33, and is connected at points where a suitable impedance match is found to an ordinary transmission line 11, Fig. 1, connected to the primary of a shielded transformer 13, the secondary of which is connected through an amplifier 15 to an indicator 17.
