Description

A. GOTHE April 9, 1935' ANTENNA ARRANGEMENT FOR THE RECEPTION OF SHORT ELECTRICAL WAVES Filed April 28, 1952 INVENTOR ALBRECHT GO BY 1+2 z ATTORNEY Patented Apr. 9, 1935 PATENT OFFICE ANTENNA ARRAN FOR THE RECEP- TION OF SHORT ELECTRICAL WAVES Albrecht Gothe, Berlin, Germany, assignor to Telefunken Gesellschai't fiir Drahtlose Telegraphic in. b. 11., Berlin, Germany, a corporation oflGermany Application April as, 1932, Serial No. 607,913 In Germany April 28, 1931 1 Claim.
Directional antenna arrangements for the reception of short electromagnetic waves are known in the prior art which comprise an antenna and a reflector part. In order to insure complete shielding of radiations arriving from the rear, it is necessary to insure accurate regulation of the amplitude and phase relations between the currents picked up by the antenna and the reflector. The compensator schemes used therefor are 1 0 greatly a function of the frequency, and they insure unilaterally directional reception only for a very definite wave-length. In the arrangements heretofore used the means provided for regulating the phase and the amplitude are disposed directly at the antenna, whence the incoming currents are conducted to the receiver by way of an energy line.
According to the present invention, both the antenna as well as the reflector are provided each with an energy feed line (or downlead) so that amplitude and phase regulation for the antenna and the reflector current may be effected directly at the receiver. As a resultit isfeasible to insure perfectly unilateral directional recep'- tion inside a relatively large wave band.
Referring to the drawing, Figs. 1 and 2 show' 35 throughout the entire frequency band it is'recom mendable to terminate the two energy feed lines LA and LR by such ohmic resistances WA and We that no standing waves are likely to be produced upon the same.
The arrangement is also useful for the simultaneous reception of several waves. All that is necessary for this purpose is to interpose non-reactive coupling units, or links between the energy- A fundamental case covering this scheme is shown in Fig. 2. Thermionic tubes are connected in parallel relation to the resistances WA and WR. In the case of the illustration any unsymmetric energy feed line or downlead has been assumed of which one conductor is earthed. When using symmetric energy lines it is necessary to provide symmetric push-pull circuit schemes. Fundamentally speaking, simultaneous reception of several waves is feasible also without the terminal resistances WA and We. Since antenna and refiector are equivalent it is possible to receive simultaneously from opposite directions, and it is immaterial in this connection whether the incoming waves are equal or dissimilar.
I claim:
The combination in a radio receiving system of a plurality of antennae, a receiver, individual energy feed lines coupling said antennae to said receiver, a thermionic vacuum tube individually coupling said receiver with each of said energy ALBRECHT GQTHE.
